GSTA Florida Keys Scuba Adventure July 14-20 2019
This year Gold Star Teen Adventures will be offering and all expenses paid for teens to earn the NAUI Scuba Diver certification in beautiful Key West, Florida. We will be staying at the United States Army Combat Dive School. While there, teens will complete two days of pool training, and conduct their open water dives on some of the most beautiful reefs known to the Florida Keys. Once training is complete, the teens will have the opportunity to dive in the famous waters of Key Largo. This adventure is a component of the GSTA Scuba Academy. Teens that aspire to continue to develop their scuba diving skills following this adventure will have the opportunity to work towards multiple other higher level diving certifications offered in the Academy. This trip promises to be an exciting adventure filled with learning new skills, earning open water certification, and lots of fun activities out of the water too!
Is Scuba diving safe?
Like any adventure sport, there are potential hazards. All of our diving instructors are qualified and current and our staff ensure that all industry safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.
Is it hard to learn?
Scuba diving is fun and easy to learn. It’s probably easier than you imagine — especially if you’re already comfortable in the water. Our entry-level course consists of pool diving, knowledge development, fundamentals and open water dives. The course is performance based, meaning that you progress as you learn and demonstrate knowledge and skill. Our advanced course builds on the skills learned in the Adventure Open Water Scuba Camp.
I have had asthma and/or ear problems in the past. Can I still dive?
Unfortunately, there are certain medical issues such as asthma and ear problems that can be problematic to diving. We are not medical experts, so it is difficult to give a definite answer to this question. Prior to participation in our open water diving course, a diving medical form that must be signed by a doctor. The bottom line is “safety first.”
Does a parent have to attend our Adventure Diving Camps with their child?
No, parents do not attend the dive adventures.
Can a waiver be granted if the teen is not yet 12?
Although 10 years old is an acceptable age by industry standards, Gold Star Teen Adventures will only conduct training with youth 14 years of age and older.
Application will be posted the first week of December 2018.
