GSTA 2018 Adventures
Gold Star Teen Adventures is recruiting for an exciting event this spring. The GSTA family is going to race in the 2018 Rugged Maniac Adventure Race in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. This promises to be an exciting weekend! The race includes (lots of) mud, 20+ challenging obstacles, running, and teamwork! In typical GSTA fashion, we will also fill the weekend with other fun events.
Gold Star Teen Adventures is pleased to announce a new event. This adventure will last seven days (15 June-23 June 2018) and will be conducted in various locations throughout North Carolina. The adventure will be tailored to mimic the Amazing Race. It is each team/ squad’s goal to work together as a team, complete each leg as quickly as possible, and meet the conditions of the task(s). There will be a final winning team that will win based on an accumulative scoring system that will be tallied throughout the adventure. GS teens will be taught and tested on skills throughout the week to enhance their outdoor field craft. GS teens will also be taught and assigned leadership positions throughout the week.There will also be plenty of time for campfires, making new friends, connecting with mentors, and plenty more! Don’t miss the trip of a lifetime!

Bonaire Here We Come!! (Again)
This year our already Open Water certified divers will have the opportunity to earn NAUI Advanced certification and their Nitrox certification in Bonaire.We will be staying at Captain Don’s Resort! When we are not diving we will be windsurfing, visiting the Donkey Sanctuary, playing beach volleyball, heading into Gio’s for some gelato and much more.This trip is open to already Open Water certified divers!!! Grab your sunscreen, your passport, and your sense of adventure!
This year GSTA will be holding its Rescue Certification in Bonaire. Teens in their fourth year of diving with GSTA will travel back to Captain Don’s Resort! Teens will learn to “manage risks and effectively handle limited in -water problems and diving emergencies, how to assist and transport divers and how to perform surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and scuba divers.” CPR and First Aid certification are required to complete this course. Teens will receive those certifications during the week as well. When we are not diving we will be windsurfing, visiting the Donkey Sanctuary, playing beach volleyball, heading into Gio’s for some gelato and much more. This trip is open to teens 15 years of age and those that have already attended the GSTA Wreck Trek!!! Grab your sunscreen, your passport, and your sense of adventure!
Information and Application for GSTA Rescue Scuba
This year Gold Star Teen Adventures is taking our eager and adventurous teens to get their Open Water certification to Key West. We will be staying at the United States Army Combat Dive School. While there, Gold Star teens will complete 2 days of pool training then off to the ocean for their open water dives. Once certified we will head to Key Largo for a different underwater view. This trip promises to be an exciting adventure filled with learning new skills, earning Open Water Certification and lots of activities out of the water!
Information and Application for GSTA Open Water Scuba
This year Gold Star Teen Adventures is taking our experienced divers to the next level…wreck diving! We will be staying at the United States Army Combat Dive School in Key West Florida. While there, Gold Star teens will learn requisite skills for wreck diving. From there, Gold Star teens will be diving the best wrecks that the Florida Keys have to offer. Dive wrecks include the USCGC Duane, The Eagle, the Speigel, and the Vandenberg to name a few. This trip promises to be an exciting adventure filled with learning new skills, experiencing deeper and more technical diving, and seeing some incredible wrecks in the beautiful waters of south Florida.
This trip is for experienced GSTA divers and requires an Advanced Certification. Get ready for a diving experience you will never forget!
Information and Application for GSTA Wreck Trek
This year Gold Star Teen Adventures will be holding our 2nd annual Junior Warrior Weekend. This weekend will be action packed; it will include a shooting day, an infiltration techniques day, a medical training day, and a day of advanced paintball on a giant Urban Terrain complex. Teens will learn how to shoot AR-15 rifles, pistols, and sniper systems on a two-mile shooting range! In typical GSTA fashion, the day will end with a shooting competition. Gold Star teens will conduct land navigation exercises with map and compass, and will receive instruction and ride All-Terrain Vehicles. Then finally teens will advanced will kit up and hit the Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) site and attempt to capture the flag! Of course, we will always find time for campfires, games, and reconnecting with our GSTA family.
This event will be held in October of 2018, applications will open in August
GSTA White Tail Deer Hunt SC November 8th – 11th, 2018 (tentative)
This year’s white tail deer hunt will be held in South Carolina. Participating youth will have the opportunity to become familiar with the function and safe use of various rifles, pistols and shotguns with the help of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Youth will also be partnered with an experienced adult hunter that will teach them about harvesting deer. The youth will have the opportunity to put these skills to the test with some white tail deer hunting. Following the hunt, our youth will learn how to field dress and clean a harvested deer. There will be time around the campfire to reconnect with friends too!
