This November, I was invited to attend the third annual GSTA White Tail Deer Hunt at Mr. Love’s ranch in South Carolina. Twenty one teens were flown in for a weekend full of target practice, hunting and lots of memory making. It was so exciting for us, as a group, to welcome three new teens into our family, and I know they ended the weekend with new friends in all of us.
The trip started with a safety briefing, a visit from the local bomb squad and the opportunity to sight-in our weapons in preparation for the hunt. Throughout the whole weekend we all got to show our shooting skills through target practice, skeet shooting and of course, deer hunting. On this trip, I shot my very first deer! I was able to track it down using Copper, the tracking dog who belonged to one of the volunteers. It was really cool watching Copper pick up the scent trail, which led us to my buck!
I could not have asked for a better mentor and group to share this experience with. I also loved getting to know all of the wonderful volunteers who gave their time to come spend the weekend with us. I’m already counting down the days until my next trip with my Gold Star Teen Adventures family!
